why this job is easy

Because I know this - these girls, this age, this time, this place. Upper-middle class/rich/wealthy/owning-class girls all trying to swim through middle adolescence, unsure if they're going to ride or drown with the next wave. The patterns of language, even in other languages, the worries about college and parents and pressure and boys (of losing friends to boys, of losing self to boys). I know these fears. I've had them. These girls, there's no question that they'll go to college. They're on the One True Path I followed so diligently for so long. Still following, technically. It's acceptable to take a year off, as long as it's right after college. No matter how many hours I spend decorating bulletin boards, or hauling them off to play soccer, it will never be as tiring as working with poor kids. Because this - this isn't emotional energy. It's too easy.
