Taken from Davey's www.thinkagaintraining.com materials. Just a quickie:
1) How much formal education did your parents or guardians complete?
Mom: BA Brown University, Certificate of Massage Therapy (or whatever that is) from Healing Hands Institute
Dad: BA City College of New York, MA Stevens Institute of Technology
2) What is one thing your parents or guardians taught you about class or money?
Well, they certainly said that one has to earn money, but never said anything about the fact that they were planning to give us large gifts of money on important occasions like graduations. Sometimes, I think some of my shame around most of the money that I have right now is that I did nothing to earn it. We would go out to eat somewhere, and my sister and I (as young children) would say "Let's eat there every day!" and my father would unfailingly answer, "When you grow up and work very hard and make lots of money, you can eat wherever you want." But I was totally unprepared for the $5000 I received in total Bat Mitzvah gifts from family and friends. My parents said I'd earned it through my hard work of becoming a Bat Mitzvah, but that it was going to help pay for college. I assumed they meant tuition, but the summer before my first year, they gave me access to that money all at once - and it paid for my books every semester, and everything else extra during the 3 semesters I wasn't working. What kind of lesson was that?
